AiTLE & William Jessup University (WJU): 1 Million HKD Scholarship Computer Science Competition for High School students 2022 高中學生「一百萬元港幣獎學金」電腦科學比賽 2022

Calling talented Hong Kong and Macau high school student designers, makers and leaders. The goal of the competition is to bring high school students in Hong Kong and Macau together to develop innovative and entrepreneurial APP ideas. William Jessup University (WJU) & AiTLE, along with the different partners, following the success of the competition at 2019, planned to launch the competition again at 2022 : [AiTLE & William Jessup University (WJU): 1 Million HKD Scholarship Computer Science Competition for High School students 2022 高中學生「一百萬元港幣獎學金」電腦科學比賽 2022]. Winning teams of Second Round (in a team of 4 Form 6 students) will receive a scholarship to attend WJU in California. Total amount of scholarship and prizes is more than 1 Million HKD, with conditional offer to William Jessup University (WJU) Computer Science Degree Course.

Below is the competition details :

  • Eligibility of Participants & Categories
    • Full Time Secondary 4, 5, or 6 students @ school in Hong Kong and Macau
      • First Round :
        • Secondary 4 to Secondary 6 students at 2021-2022 academic year
      • Second Round :
        • Secondary 6 students at 2022-2023 academic year
          • If the team has joined the first round, the submission can be a continuation of works from First Round
          • If the team hasn’t joined the first round, the submission needs to be a brand-new idea
    • Application must through school
      • School :
        • Local schools in Hong Kong and Macau including all government, aided (including special schools), caput and schools under the Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS), International Schools in Hong Kong and Macau
        • Each school must have a teacher in charge as the main contact point for the competition
    • Participants must be in a team of 4 full-time students
    • Each team may be advised with their teacher / advisor but the work must be the students
  • “Product” to be submitted : A PowerPoint Proposal with a 2-5 minutes video
    • The Presentation :
      • Based on the template provided, explaining your idea using graphics, images, text, audio and video links (max. 15MB and within 15 slides)
    • Video
      • Film a short video of 2 – 5 minutes in length to present your idea.
      • The video must be uploaded to an online platform (e.g. youtube) and set it as “unlisted”, then include the video link in the PowerPoint proposal
    • Either or both in the PowerPoint Proposal and/or video to introduce team members, and showcasing the App and/or Products for initial review (shortlisting)
    • App and/or Products
      • Need to show to judges during the showcasing session and presentation session (i.e. passed the shortlisting)
    • The presentations, App and/or Products interface must be in English

HKU SAAS Data Science Lab of the Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science, The University of Hong Kong is organizing an AI Robotics Vision and Automation Technology Challenges Competition for Secondary School/Undergraduate/Graduated Students, and Companies. The aim of this competition is to promote development of artificial intelligence (AI) robotics vision and automation technologies at the school level and the industry level.

The competition encourages students and companies to develop innovative AI robotics solutions with AI, data science and statistical tools for solving current hot topics/problems in robotics vision and automation. The competition also serves as a platform for local secondary schools, institutions, and industries to share knowledge, innovation and experience on the application of AI robotics technologies for solving business problems, enhancing businesses’ competitiveness, and creating business insights for industries in social science, smart city, healthcare, education, and Internet of Things (IoT).

  • Program Overview :
    • The HKU SAAS Data Science Lab provides current AI robotics vision and automation problems/challenges for students and companies to solve and discover robotics innovation in statistics, AI and data science disciplines. Students and companies will give a presentation to the judging panel how they would solve the problem, and create innovative robotics application to demonstrate their solution
    • The participants’ school/university teachers, and industrial partners will provide mentoring on innovation creation, techniques and skills of solving robotics problems, and project report writing for participants
    • The HKU SAAS Data Science Lab will nurture students and companies on innovation development, business insights creation, and entrepreneurship

        • Use AI technologies to optimize buildings’ operational efficiency and occupants’ experience through an integrated solution in order to achieve increase efficiency, resiliency, sustainability, comfort and safety
      • AI in Social Science
        • Use AI robotics vision and automation technology to resolve and improve some current social issues (e.g. traffic congestion, pollutions vs conservation, elderly living conditions, etc)
      • AI in Education
        • Use different AI robotics and/or intelligent machines in STEM Education to cultivate the interest of school/university students or company trainings in AI study
      • AI in Internet of Things (IoT)
        • Use AI technologies to improve the intelligence of smart home solutions, or others, through sensing technologies

AiTLE Recommend : Join Cybersec Infohub as member

HKIRC invites teachers to become a member of their cyber security information sharing platform, the Cybersec Infohub. The Cybersec Infohub is partnership programme of OGCIO and HKIRC to promote closer collaboration among local information security stakeholders of different sectors. Members can share cyber security information and jointly defend against cyber-attacks. Current members found this platform useful especially when they lack adequate knowledge or resources to plan and implement cybersecurity measures. Being a member, you can enjoy these benefits:

  • Seek cyber security support from industry experts by posting your questions
  • Receive trending cyber threat insights of the day by email
  • Interact and share with other Members from different sectors in a secure environment
  • Build up trust circles based on common interests for sharing valuable / actionable cyber security information

AiTLE 自 2016 年起,每年均會籌辦不少教師海外電子學習 & STEM 交流團,讓教師們擴闊視野,與及和海外學者交流經驗。曾到過的地方包括「英國」、「德國」、「愛沙尼亞」、「維也納」、「上海」、「廣州」、「成都」、「杭州」等地方,當中曾多次到訪英國,除了教師外,近年近有學生參與。

多次到訪英國的其中一個原因為英國每年一月份均有全世界數一數二的大型資訊科技教育展覽:BETT Show(BETT = British Educational Training and Technology)。教師們透過出席 BETT Show,可進一步了解到新科技在學與教上的可行性。當中表表者為本會於 2016 年舉辦「訪英教師交流團」,在 BETT Show 中首次看見 micro:bit,回港後積極與伙伴合作及聯絡,同年 3 月及 6 月舉辦分享會,同年 9 月已在不同學校開始使用。時至今日,micro:bit 在香港中小學界有著極重要之地位。

其實除了 BETT Show 外,每年一度在美國舉辦之 ISTE(ISTE = International Society for Technology in Education)也絕對是值得大家參與的資訊科技教育會議。AiTLE 其實原計劃在 2020 年 6 月率團前往美國出席 ISTE20,不過因為疫情緣故,沒有成行。不過,ISTE20 最終同樣因為疫情問題沒有在 2020 年 6 月進行,而因應疫情仍持續,ISTE20 最終決定於本年 11 月 29 日至 12 月 5 日以 Online 形式進行

  • 本年 ISTE20 焦點內容有:
    • 沉浸體驗:
      • ISTE20 Live 為參與者構建了一種沉浸式在線體驗,為參與者之間的相互協作及最新應用程序的學習提供了多種方式。此外,您可以簡單使用文字聊天或視頻聊天方式參加參加線上社交活動
    • 多方互動:
      • 您可以與來自世界各地的教育領導者、工作者、愛好者頻密互動並與其建立聯繫,從中收穫靈感,了解前沿教育科技,掌握當下教育領域挑戰的應對策略
    • 靈活形式
      • 您可以根據日程安排靈活選擇參與活動以及參與方式(現場、點播、回放等)。大會結束後,您可以訪問數百小時的存檔視頻和活動資源,並且可以對其探索長達六個月
